Squirrel Removal

Squirrels are a prime example of an invasive wildlife control species, also considered to be Rodents.  Squirrel shown in the image is an Eastern Grey Squirrel.  They are sometimes black, white, gray, or even have a little reddish in their fur!

They can cause fires in your home or business from the damages they create while chewing on electrical wires or plumbing related fixtures such as air conditioning unit draining tubes that may be placed in your attic space.  Severe insulation damage from urinating and defecating that occurs while they occupy your attic space. Contact PWS immediately for an Inspection if you suspect Activity!

  • Squirrel’s DO-NOT carry Rabies!
  • Squirrel’s mate and have litters twice per year, Typically producing between 1-7 offspring.  Breeding occurs in mid-summer and another in early spring.  Young are usually born between March and April, with a second litter arriving around July or August.
  • Diet: The squirrel’s diet varies according to season. It eats mainly tree bark and fungi in the winter and buds in the summer. In September it eats nuts and acorns. A hungry gray squirrel will also raid a bird’s nest for eggs, steal food from bird feeders and dig up plants. In urban environments the gray squirrels also come across free handouts from people (namely peanuts in the shell). The squirrel buries extra food just below the soil’s surface, which it later locates by smell.
  • Early spring-born squirrels will leave their mother, and venture into the wild on their own for the remaining parts of the year, while late summer or early winter born squirrels typically stay with mom throughout winter due to lack of vegetation and not knowing where to find food.

Raccoon Removal

Raccoons are a nocturnal species that will nest inside your chimney or attic space & Crawl space whether its nesting season or not.  They typically leave your home at night to forage for food, and return early Morning.  Customers have reported hearing what sounds like a human walking in their attic, Unlike squirrels and other rodents/wildlife, these species  are the #1 carrier for the rabies virus.  It is extremely dangerous to feed, or touch any raccoon.  Contact PWS for humane trapping and removal or exclusion for any raccoon infestation or problem you may be having.

  • Very strong animals which have opposable thumbs that allow the raccoon to climb downspouts, brick, siding, air conditioner lines, trees, or practically anything!
  • Raccoons typically have between 3-5 kits per litter, and are usually discovered between  March and June, with April and May being the peak season for raccoon babies.
  • Raccoons leave toiletries for their waste and their feces could contain round-worms.
  • We here at PWS have seen roofs damaged, fascia boards destroyed, soffits removed etc… to allow or gain raccoon entry.  In addition to these few areas, PWS will inform you if there are any other locations around your structure that would allow or grant raccoon entry.
  • Following your humane exclusion/removal, PWS techs will provide you with remediation services to clean the infected areas.

Bat Removal

Bats are an important species of wildlife, as they assist with controlling our Insect population.  However, bats are not a type of wildlife you want to live with in your home, or reside in your business! Contact PWS for a Bat– Inspection immediately if you suspect having bats!

  • Reside in homes with brick facing, chimneys, wood siding, gable vents, loose ridge caps, shutters, concrete/block foundations for basement levels at rear, open or not properly sealed soffit and much more.
  • Any opening of 1/4″ must be closed properly and bat-cones or self exclusion devices placed at areas of entry in order to eliminate bats from re-entry once they exit.
  • Offspring season is between April & August, meaning it is not legal to remove bats during this time unless a permit through your local DNR agency is acquired.  The permit is free and easy to locate through dnr.com in your state.
  •  It’s mating system is polygynandrous, or promiscuous, and females give birth to one offspring annually. The offspring, called pups, are quickly weaned and reach adult size in some dimensions by three weeks old.
  •  Throughout the spring and summer, males and females roost separately. In the fall, however, individuals of both sexes will congregate in the same roost in a behavior known as “swarming”
  • Bat “GUANO” aka bat feces will typically build up at roosting sites and should be cleaned by professionals such as PWS employees.
  • Bat urine is “ACIDIC” and will burn holes through metal or screening over time.  Your gable vents stand no chance against holes with your home being infested for long periods of time.

Have you experienced Bird activity in your attic, soffit, gable vents, or bathroom and laundry exhaust vents? Perhaps chimneys, or open pipes? Regardless of your situation, Our technicians here at PWS can remove unwanted birds from these areas & Seal suspected areas with the proper materials to give you a bird free residence!  During Baby bird seasons, We will transport any live juvenile birds to the nearest wildlife facility if they are too young to be released.  Contact PWS for an Inspection and Seal-up recommendations!

  • Common birds that invade homes are “European Starlings” & “House Sparrows”
  • Birds can carry diseases and should be handled by a wildlife technician only!
  •  PWS uses hardware cloth, metal flashing, or commercial vent covers to seal openings.  Lighter material, such as plastic netting or window screening, rarely keeps determined starlings out. Any vent covering used for starlings should be checked periodically to make sure they are operating correctly.
  • European Starlings carry mites aka “Bird Mites”.  These mites are very tiny and if you are exposed to them, they may cause itching and irritation to your skin.

Time to time PWS will get calls regarding snakes in, on or around Customer’s homes & Businesses.

98% of these calls are for the Black-Rat-Snake.

Occasional Garter snakes, Ring-neck snakes, Dekay’s brown snake, Water snakes, Mountain and Smooth earth snakes, Eastern ribbon snake, Common worm snake, Red- bellied snake, Queen snake, Eastern hog-nose snake, Rough & smooth Green snakes, Coastal plain & Eastern milk snakes, Red-corn snake, Eastern pine snake, Northern mole kingsnake, Eastern kingsnake, Scarlett snake.  ALL OF THESE SPECIES ARE NON-VENOMOUS SNAKES!

Venomous species such as CopperHeads and Timber Rattlesnake calls come in, However, sometimes these calls are a wrong identification of what is believed to be a poisonous breed.

Regardless of your situation, Contact PWS so one of our Trained Technicians can come to your home and provide you with the removal of any species of snake on your property.  We will also provide you with an inspection of your home or business for any entry points, or lingering snakes or snake activity.  We can offer seal-up services, and temporary repellent services as

Commonly mistaken for squirrels, PWS receives calls for scratching or movements in walls and ceilings that customers assume to be squirrels.  More often than not, that’s not the case!

PWS owners & operators can determine if you are infested by mice or have a problem just beginning.  Approximately 95% of homes visited by PWS have mice, even if it’s not the reason for our inspection.  Mice and Rats are both Nocturnal Rodents, though sometimes heard or seen during the daytime.  Your home’s attic, floors, walls and basements are considered dark areas to these rodents so they can easily become confused and make movement.

Mice droppings are easily identifiable. They defecate as they walk/run around so with a heavy infestation, it’s quickly discovered.  There is a difference between a house mouse and deer mice, including size and color.  Deer mice also have larger eyes and ears.  Though droppings tend to be identical, the deer mouse droppings can cause the hantavirus infection!

Hantavirus infection is spread to people when they get in contact with rodents, their droppings or urine or through inhalation of virus particles in places with a lot of rodent droppings. Fever, red eyes, shortness of breath, dizziness, fever and nausea are the commonly noted symptoms. Treatment consists of medication to manage the symptoms and in severe cases surgery or supportive care is recommended.

If you suspect either MICE or RATS, in & around your dwelling, Contact PWS immediately!

Nocturnal rodent

  • Appearance: Soft, grayish-brown fur with white belly. Large eyes with dark rings around them. Prominent ears and whiskers. They have a flat feathery like tail that’s used as a rutter during gliding to and from trees and other areas.  Flying squirrels are able to glide a total distance of up to 150′.  These animals are not aggressive like other members of squirrel families but will bite if grabbed and held by the wrong individual.  They are very common in areas with high trees such as oaks and walnut trees.  Like mice they burrow in your insulation throughout your attic space and typically enter wall space like mice.
  • Louder than mice, yet still confused with other wildlife, Southern flying squirrels are jumpy, make chattering or chuckle-like sounds and high pitched squeals during the night.
  • Droppings are identified by size, shape, & toiletries
  • Mostly nesting inside tree cavities 15-20 ‘ above ground, sometimes they find openings on your home large enough to access without chewing but commonly chew holes through unprotected fascia or roof return areas, also gable vents and attic fans.
  • Burrows into insulation are larger than mice and smaller than gray squirrels.  They prefer to nest or burrow into batted insulation, though sometimes discovered in homes with blown in insulation.
  • Flying squirrels will damage electrical wires similar to gray squirrels
  • About the size of a hamster, they will fit into the palm of your hand.
  • Flying squirrels’ mate twice a year- once in February-March and again in June-July. Therefore, some females can have two litters of young per year, averaging about 3-4 young per litter. The baby squirrels are born hairless and helpless after about 40 days of gestation. Five weeks after birth, the young are weaned and can leave the nest soon afterwards.  During winter months, Female flyers will commonly nest together to share warmth

Considered as part of the rodentia family, meaning that groundhogs are rodents.

  • Often burrowing beneath decks and sheds, sometimes alongside foundations, or in the wide-open areas of your yard, these rodents must be quickly excluded and relocated. Due to their ability to burrow deeply below ground, Groundhogs are known to cause settling of ground, concrete steps or walkways, collapsed sheds, damage to wooden structures due to all rodent’s constant chewing to file down their teeth which never stop growing!  PWS will inspect the holes, determine whether its currently active or not with certain techniques.  We can then offer trapping and removal with cage traps or one-way doors.  A permanent exclusion to the problematic area of damage will be recommended.  PWS cannot guarantee that another groundhog won’t be seen wandering around your yard, but with a proper exclusion we can assure there won’t be any further damage to current infested areas.
  •  Baby groundhogs are born approximately one month after the groundhog mating season during March and April. The babies are completely dependent on the mother, and they nurse on the mother for an average of four to six weeks after birth. When the babies are weaned at around 6 weeks of age, they begin to consume vegetable matter.

  • Also known to eat dog and cat food
  • NOCTURNAL Animal
  • Opossums are known for scavenging though trash. They are omnivores, which means they eat both vegetation and meat, and they aren’t picky.
  • Opossums are about the size of small dogs. They are about 2.5 feet (76 centimeters), nose to tail, and weigh 8.8 to 13.2 lbs.
  • Two to three litters per year, with an average of seven young in each litter. Like other marsupials, the young spend their first several weeks of life in their mother’s pouch. After this time period, young opossums will leave their mothers in search of their own home.
  • Found entering homes though holes in roofs, rotted wood areas,  sheds, crawl space vents.
  • PWS will trap and remove unwanted opossums for you.  If any seal-up recommendations should be needed, our Inspector will determine the need and point you to the correct recommendation.
